Authorities have thwarted what could have been the third assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
On Saturday, local police arrested a man armed with multiple weapons and carrying fake entry passes near Trump’s rally at Coachella Valley, according to Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco.
The suspect, identified as Vem Miller, was apprehended approximately a mile from the event venue.
Miller was found with a loaded shotgun, handgun, and a high-capacity magazine, along with counterfeit press and VIP passes. “We likely prevented another assassination attempt,” Bianco said.
Miller, believed to be part of a right-wing anti-government group, was stopped at a checkpoint when officers noticed discrepancies in his passes.
These differences raised enough suspicion to prompt a search, which led to the discovery of the weapons.
Miller, who holds a master’s degree from UCLA and ran for the Nevada State Assembly in 2022, was charged with possession of a loaded firearm and a high-capacity magazine. After posting $5,000 bail, he was released, according to police records.
Trump was speaking at the rally near Coachella on Saturday, continuing his campaign for the 2024 presidential race. This is a developing story, and further updates will be provided as they become available.
