Taylor Swift recently sparked a heated debate among fans when she shared an unusual personal hygiene habit. During an appearance on “The Ellen Show” in 2019, Swift was asked by host Ellen DeGeneres if she washes her legs in the shower. The pop superstar admitted she only does so when shaving, explaining that the shaving cream doubles as soap.
“I do, because when you shave your legs, the shaving cream is like soap, right?” Swift said. DeGeneres agreed, adding, “That’s the reason most women wash their legs – because we shave them.” Swift responded with relief, joking that she was “on the right side of history.”
However, when DeGeneres pointed out that this means she doesn’t wash her legs when she isn’t shaving, Swift hesitated, causing a stir among viewers.
Many took to social media to express their surprise, with some questioning why she wouldn’t wash her legs every time she showers.
The reaction was mixed—while some fans found it odd, others understood her reasoning, arguing that everyone’s hygiene habits are different.
This revelation places Swift among a group of celebrities who have faced scrutiny for their unconventional grooming habits. While her approach might seem strange to some, it highlights the diverse ways people maintain their personal hygiene.

Taylor’s approach might be more reasonable than it seems. Dr. Joshua Zeichner, MD, a dermatologist and director of cosmetic and clinical research at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City, explained that washing your legs extensively isn’t always necessary.
“Unless your legs are noticeably dirty, you don’t need to scrub them with soap,” he told Women’s Health. “The soap and water running down from washing other parts of your body are generally enough to clean your legs of the day’s dirt and sweat.”
However, Dr. Zeichner emphasizes that this does not apply to your feet, which tend to collect more dirt and bacteria and should be washed thoroughly.
To further enhance leg hygiene, you can exfoliate occasionally to remove dead skin cells and improve skin texture.
