Sean Paul intends to keep himself occupied as much as possible.
The 51-year-old Jamaican dancehall artist opened out to NME earlier this month about his retirement plans and said he would not be leaving the spotlight for good. This was during his performance at the Wireless Festival in London.
“No, man, me nah retire ’til me dead like a tire. Trust me now, man,” Paul told the outlet in a TikTok video, adding: “It gets harder. It do get harder as someone who’s growing older.”
“It’s a thing, but it keeps me youthful,” continued the “Temperature” performer. “I read a little thing yesterday that said if you attend two concerts or two festivals every month, you’re going to gain nine years on your life, so I’mma live forever! You know what I mean?”
Paul continued by expressing how much he enjoyed performing, particularly at music festivals. “What I’m saying is this is a synergy and a gathering of people, of like-minded people who want to just party and have fun,” he stated. “Huzzah to all those who enthusiastically attend the festivals each year and to all those who organize them. It is fantastic.”

The Grammy winner then became rather philosophical, saying, he thinks music is omnipotent because it keeps you fresh and helps you improve at the same time. That is akin to God, so praise God and praise music.
“To me, music is a thing that helps you evolve, and it helps to keep you young at the same time, so that’s omnipotent. That’s like God, so big up, God, and big up, music.” he stated.
Paul is keeping to his word and is not planning on slowing down. He wrapped up a run of international festival gigs a few months ago, and in August and September, he will be touring Canada.
Though Paul has put out a number of songs and collaborations in recent years, such as “Light ‘Em Up” with Will Smith for the Bad Boys: Ride or Die soundtrack in June, his most recent album, Scorcha, was released in 2022.
Having worked in the entertainment industry for roughly thirty years, Paul’s influence now extends beyond his own releases. Paul was pleased to approve of the use of his 2001 hit song “Gimme the Light,” which is sampled in Ice Spice’s most recent track, “Gimme a Light.”
“They slowed it down a little bit, but her career is so hot right now and I was like, ‘Yo, that’s dope,’” he told NME at Wireless Festival, where Ice, 24, also performed.
“She’s a great artist. She’s out there performing tonight. Everybody was screaming. So I feel good about the vibe. Big up to Ice. Big up to everybody who loves dancehall and reggae culture and who may want a sample or use it or whatever.” he added.
