Megyn Kelly recently criticized Oprah Winfrey over a town hall event she hosted for Vice President Kamala Harris, calling Oprah “elitist” and saying she missed the more “genuine” Oprah from earlier days.
On her podcast, The Megyn Kelly Show, Kelly expressed disappointment in Oprah’s approach, stating that the media mogul has become out of touch with ordinary people.“I miss fat Oprah. She was just genuine,” Kelly remarked, suggesting that Oprah’s current image, shaped by weight loss and possibly influenced by the weight loss drug Ozempic, had changed her.
Kelly believed that Oprah, once admired for her authenticity, had lost touch with her audience, along with her heart and sense of realness.
The event in question was held in Michigan, a key battleground state, and was part of the “Unite for America Rally” to support Harris’ campaign. Celebrities like Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, and Jennifer Lopez attended virtually.
During the town hall, Oprah interviewed Harris in a format reminiscent of her famous talk show.Kelly was not impressed by the event, which she labeled as a “debacle.” She criticized Oprah for not asking Harris tough questions, especially on important topics like gun policies and the border crisis.
Kelly noted that Harris had made headlines during the town hall by making a controversial comment about shooting intruders, which Oprah did not challenge. According to Kelly, Oprah’s failure to press Harris on serious issues reflected poorly on her journalistic integrity.

Kelly also voiced her disappointment with Oprah’s actions during the town hall, chastising her in particular for “yelling” and creating an awkward atmosphere. She maintained that Oprah has become more detached from regular Americans due to her riches and lifestyle, making her seem out of touch.
Kelly’s remarks speak to a larger worry that when celebrities and wealth rise, certain media personalities lose their public persona and become more easily associated with the wealthy class, making them less accessible to the general people.
