Justin Timberlake, the renowned singer and actor, pled guilty to impaired driving, finalizing the legal proceedings from his June arrest in the Hamptons.
Appearing in Sag Harbor Village Court, Timberlake accepted responsibility for his actions and entered a guilty plea for impaired driving.
The court sentenced the 43-year-old star to a $500 fine, a $260 surcharge, and 25 hours of community service. In addition, he will make a public safety announcement (PSA) to raise awareness about the dangers of driving under the influence.
Timberlake appeared remorseful, addressing the court with a statement in which he expressed regret for his behavior. “I did not live up to the standards that I try to hold for myself,” he said, admitting that he had spent significant time reflecting on his actions and was grateful for the chance to make amends.
However, Judge Carl Irace, who presided over the case, questioned the proposed deal, particularly the timing of the public safety announcement. He believed that Timberlake needed more time for genuine reflection, so he imposed the additional community service hours.
The Incident and Arrest
Timberlake’s troubles began in the early hours of June 18, 2024, when police in Sag Harbor pulled him over after observing him run a stop sign and veer out of his lane. Timberlake, who was driving a BMW, was described by officers as having bloodshot, glassy eyes, slurred speech, and an unsteady gait. He reportedly smelled of alcohol and failed sobriety tests at the scene.
According to police reports, Timberlake told officers that he had only consumed one martini that night. However, he refused a Breathalyzer test, which resulted in the automatic suspension of his driver’s license under New York law. This suspension could have broader implications for his driving privileges across other states, as explained by legal experts.
Legal and Career Implications
Though Timberlake’s license was suspended in New York, this may impact his ability to drive elsewhere in the U.S. Most states are part of the Driver’s License Compact, meaning that suspensions in one state can affect a driver’s status in others. However, Timberlake’s wealth and resources make it easy for him to arrange alternate transportation when needed.
Despite the legal issues, Timberlake has continued his musical career without major interruptions. Although he has not publicly commented on the arrest in detail, he did acknowledge his difficult week during a concert in Chicago on June 21, where he told fans, “It’s been a tough week, but you’re here, and I’m here.”

With a tour already in progress, Timberlake is scheduled to return to the New York area for performances in New Jersey and Brooklyn in the coming weeks. While the court proceedings have added a temporary blemish to his otherwise successful career, Timberlake is expected to fulfill his legal obligations and continue focusing on his music and acting projects.
This case marks another instance where a high-profile celebrity is held accountable for impaired driving, sending a message about the consequences of such actions, even for individuals in the spotlight.
