On Tuesday evening, a passenger on a JetBlue flight caused a stir by unexpectedly opening an exit door while the jet was taxiing for takeoff at Boston Logan International Airport. The video of the passenger’s arrest is shown below.
The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m., setting off a cascade of events that scared passengers and prompted an emergency response.
According to Massachusetts State Police spokesman Tim McGuirk, the passenger wrenched open the overwing escape door “suddenly and without warning” while the plane was on the ground. The unexpected action triggered an emergency slide, which added to the turmoil onboard.
In a dramatic turn, fellow passengers quickly restricted the individual, preventing further disruption. “They were freaking out. They were like, ‘Stop, stop!'” said Fred Wynn, a passenger who witnessed the incident.
Wynn described the passenger as someone who had been arguing with his girlfriend on the phone before running toward the exit door. “He got up and ran down the aisle toward the overwing door,” Wynn explained.

The identity of the passenger involved has not been revealed, but authorities confirmed that he was apprehended and is expected to face charges. He will be arraigned on Wednesday, according to police reports.
Following the incident, passengers were transferred to another plane, which eventually flew to San Juan, Puerto Rico, as scheduled. JetBlue verified that the problem was quickly resolved, with no injuries recorded.
This unnerving incidence occurs just weeks after a similar emergency door incident on an Alaska Airlines flight. After landing at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, a passenger opened the emergency exit and climbed onto the airplane’s wing. The woman was later escorted off the wing and sent to a hospital for assessment.
Both occurrences occur during a period of increased concern about aviation safety, following a string of worrying accidents, including a tragic crash in South Korea.
Recall that on December 29, a Jeju Air flight from Bangkok crashed in Muan, South Korea, killing 179 people and leaving only two crew members alive.
