On Tuesday evening, a JetBlue passenger caused a commotion when he unexpectedly opened an exit door while the plane was taxiing for takeoff at Boston Logan International Airport. The video of the passenger’s arrest is provided below.
The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m., triggering a series of events that terrified passengers and prompted an emergency response.
According to Massachusetts State Police spokesperson Tim McGuirk, the passenger opened the overwing escape door “suddenly and without warning” while the plane was still on the ground. The unexpected action resulted in an emergency slide, adding to the chaos onboard.
In a dramatic turn, other passengers quickly restrained the guy, preventing additional disruption. “They were freaked out. “They were like, ‘Stop, stop!'” stated Fred Wynn, a passenger who witnessed the incident.
Wynn described the passenger as someone who had been arguing with his girlfriend on the phone before running toward the exit door. “He got up and ran down the aisle toward the overwing door,” Wynn explained.

The passenger’s identity has not been revealed, but authorities confirmed that he was captured and is expected to face charges. He will be arraigned on Wednesday, according to police reports.
Following the incident, passengers were relocated to another plane, which traveled to San Juan, Puerto Rico, on schedule. JetBlue said that the issue was rectified immediately, with no injuries reported.
This disturbing episode comes just weeks after a similar emergency door incident on an Alaska Airlines flight. After landing at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, a passenger used the emergency escape to climb onto the plane’s wing. The woman was later removed off the wing and sent to a hospital for evaluation.
Both incidents occurred amid a moment of increased concern about aviation safety, which followed a series of concerning mishaps, including a tragic crash in South Korea.
Recall that on December 29, a Jeju Air flight from Bangkok crashed in Muan, South Korea, killing 179 people and leaving only two crew members alive.
