Dwight Yoakam, a country music legend, has just dropped his first new song in nine years. Last month, he made his long-awaited return, collaborating with global superstar Post Malone.
The duo teamed up for a catchy honky-tonk track titled “I Don’t Know How To Say Goodbye (Bang Bang Boom Boom).”
This single is the first release from Yoakam’s upcoming album Brighter Days, which is set to come out on November 15.
The album will include 12 brand-new songs, along with three cover tracks: “Keep On The Sunny Side” by The Carter Family, “Bound Away” by Cake, and “Time Between” by The Byrds.
From what we’ve heard so far, it seems like Yoakam’s signature sound will be at the heart of this album, keeping his long-time fans satisfied after years of waiting.
Today, Yoakam and Malone released the official video for “I Don’t Know How To Say Goodbye (Bang Bang Boom Boom),” which brings the upbeat western tune to life.
A few months ago, fans spotted the pair riding horses down Sunset Boulevard, sparking curiosity about what they were working on. This music video finally reveals the answer.
The video features actresses Nina Dobrev and Malin Akerman, following the storyline of Yoakam and Malone’s love lives, where they struggle to let go of the women they love. Even though the women try to leave, Yoakam and Malone keep showing up wherever they go.
When the women try to leave town in their cars, the men make one last effort to win them back, stopping traffic on horseback. In the end, the women manage to drive away, leaving Yoakam and Malone riding off together into the night.
The fun and lighthearted video fits perfectly with the song’s upbeat rhythm, bringing the playful lyrics to life. In between scenes, you can see the two artists having fun in a studio, listening to the track and enjoying their friendship.
It’s especially great to see Post Malone playing alongside Yoakam’s band in the video, which feels like a full-circle moment. During the pandemic, Malone famously covered country songs like “You Can Have The Crown” and “I’m Gonna Miss Her,” which showed his appreciation for the genre.
