MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Five people were arrested Monday night after police say they caused a traffic jam in downtown Memphis by twerking in the middle of an intersection.
A police officer saw a 2016 Chevy Malibu stopped at a green light at a Memphis intersection. Upon closer inspection, the officer saw four of the men dancing outside the car, while a fifth was energetically moving on top of the vehicle’s hood, according to the police affidavit.
The five twerked to the point they blocked traffic at South Second Street and Union Avenue, roughly three blocks east of the Mississippi River, on Monday night.
According to the Memphis Police Department affidavit obtained by WREG, the suspects were transported to jail so that the offense would not happen again.
MeKell Sanders, 18, Rashaun Bryant, 22, Jordan Smith, 19, Mandre’Co Mays, 18, and Desmond Subbery, 18 were all charged with obstructing a highway or passageway and are scheduled to appear in court next week.

They were booked into jail, with Smith’s bail amount set at $2,100. The other four men were released on their own recognizance.
