The Justice Department (DOJ) shared a letter written by Ryan Wesley Routh, who tried to assassinate Donald Trump, on Monday. This letter was given to a witness months before the failed attempt on Trump’s life. The witness opened the letter only after hearing that Routh was involved in the attack.
Inside the box given to the witness were handwritten letters, ammunition, and other items. One letter, titled “Dear World,” talked about Routh’s failed attempt to kill Trump. He mentioned that he tried his best but didn’t succeed and even offered $150,000 to anyone who could finish the job.
Routh’s letter expressed his belief that Trump was not fit to be president, stating that a U.S. president should be morally upright, kind, and caring, which he felt Trump was not.
Investigators also found a book that Routh wrote in 2023 called “Ukraine’s Unwinnable War,” which criticized democracy and talked about global issues like Taiwan, Afghanistan, and World War III. In the book, Routh suggested that Iran should assassinate Trump, blaming himself for the election of someone he called “brainless.”
Routh has been charged with possessing a gun illegally and could face more charges soon. He might also be charged with pointing a gun at a Secret Service agent and threatening Trump.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis said that Routh should face life in prison, and more charges are expected to be brought against him soon.
