Shyne, a rapper and former protégé of Sean “Diddy” Combs, recently spoke out about how Combs “destroyed” his life after a 1999 nightclub shooting in New York. Despite this, Shyne, who now goes by the name Moses Barrow, expressed disappointment with Combs’ recent arrest on allegations of sex trafficking, racketeering, and other offenses.
Shyne and Combs were both involved in the 1999 shooting, but their judicial outcomes were not the same. Shyne, who was only 18 at the time, served nearly eight years in prison, while Combs was acquitted on all charges. Shyne stated regarding this unpleasant event, “One thing I would never wish on my worst enemy is to be sent to prison.”So, I don’t take pleasure in anyone’s problems, even with the law.”
Yet, Shyne made it clear that Combs’ actions had a devastating impact on his life. “This is someone who testified against me when I was just a young man trying to make my family proud and build a successful career. Instead, he ended up ruining my life,” Shyne said.
These words were made at a press conference in Belize, where Shyne currently leads the opposition in the House of Representatives. Shyne’s political career in Belize began when he was released from prison and deported to his home country.
Meanwhile, Combs is facing significant allegations in the United States. A federal judge recently dismissed his request for house detention after his arrest. He has been charged with sex trafficking, racketeering, and forcing women into prostitution.
According to court records, Combs allegedly compelled women to engage in unsettling actions such as group sex, with some being forced to take narcotics in order to participate. After these “freak off” events, as they were called, both the women and Combs would reportedly need IV fluids to recover from the physical toll.
When asked if he knew about these shocking details of Combs’ life, Shyne laughed and responded, “Oh my goodness – I had nothing to do with Combs’ personal life. Our relationship was strictly professional.”
These allegations against Combs have stirred up memories of the earlier 1999 trial, which was a major case involving famous figures in the hip-hop industry. Combs, at the time, was dating Jennifer Lopez, who was also arrested but quickly cleared of any charges. In the end, Combs was found not guilty of carrying a gun into the nightclub or attempting to bribe his driver to take the blame. Shyne, however, was convicted and served time in prison.
Reflecting on his experiences, Shyne said that although Combs hurt him deeply, he has since moved on and even tried to reconnect with Combs to ask if he would invest in Belize’s education system. “I forgave him. But we should not forget the facts – this is someone who destroyed my life,” he emphasized.

However, Shyne was clear about one thing: he doesn’t take pleasure in Combs’ recent troubles. “Do I feel good about what he’s going through? No, absolutely not. I don’t need anyone else to fail for me to succeed,” he said.
Combs, who has pleaded not guilty to the newest allegations, may face a life sentence if convicted. He is currently under suicide watch in jail while awaiting the outcome of his trial.
